## How to play

1. Mark an area about 25 by 25 metres for eighteen players, smaller with fewer.
2. A third of the group are scorers, each with a ball. The rest pair up, and each pair holds a bib stretched between them by its two ends: that pair is a goal.
3. Scorers dribble around and score by passing or shooting the ball between a pair, under the bib, from either side. Then they collect their ball and look for the next goal.
4. The goals keep moving all the time, walking or jogging, and may turn so they are hard to hit, but they never touch the ball.
5. Play rounds of about 2 minutes, then a new third become scorers, so after three rounds everyone has scored and been a goal. Each scorer counts their own goals and tries to beat that number on their next turn.

## The decision it trains

The target moves, so the scorer reads two things at once: which goal is facing me, and where will it be when the ball gets there? A goal walking across in front of you needs the pass played to where it is going, not where it is. A near goal turning away is gone; a far one turning towards you may be the better bet. Every time the ball goes through, the scorer has to look up again, find the next open goal and decide whether to dribble closer or pass from here. The pairs have a problem of their own: joined by a bib, they have to move together, spot which scorer is lining them up and turn away in time, without letting go.

## Make it harder or easier

- **Too hard:** the goals walk instead of jogging, and hold the bib at full stretch.
- **Too easy:** never the same goal twice in a row, so every goal starts with a fresh look around.
- **Next step:** a goal only counts if the ball stays inside the area afterwards, so it has to be a pass weighted to go through, not a blast.

## What to ask at the breaks

- "How did you pick which goal to go for?"
- "When the goal was moving, where did you aim?"
- "As a goal, how did you and your partner know where to move?"

## Where it comes from

The FA documents it in its England Football Learning sessions as "Human goalposts" (2022), shared by Ryan Davies, an FA physical education officer. No source names who created it.
