## How to play

1. Mark a 30 by 20 metre area, including a 30 by 5 metre end zone at each end. The central playing space is therefore 30 by 10 metres. Make two teams of six and use one ball.
2. Start with both teams in the central area and one team in possession. Keep the ball and look for a one-two around an opponent: pass to a teammate, move beyond the defender and receive the return.
3. The defender beaten by that combination moves into an end zone. It is that defender who goes, not every opponent behind the pass.
4. A player in an end zone can return by receiving a pass from a teammate and passing to another teammate. They stay involved in the passing game while waiting for that combination.
5. Both teams use the same rules when they have the ball. The game ends when every member of one team has been sent into the end zones. The coach watches which defender each one-two beats and supplies a fresh ball when needed.

## The decision it trains

A defender who steps towards the ball leaves space behind. Can the player on the ball draw that defender in, find a teammate and run beyond for the return? The supporting player reads the runner and the defender together, then judges whether the return pass is still on.

After losing a teammate to an end zone, keeping possession has another purpose. Rescue them now, or use a different passing lane to escape pressure first? The player in the zone keeps moving to offer a passing angle. The remaining defenders decide whether to press the ball or protect the return pass.

## Make it harder or easier

- **Too hard:** enlarge the central area so players have more room to draw out a defender and run beyond.
- **Too easy:** reduce the central area while keeping enough room to play safely.
- **Hobbit's session setup:** allow about 12 minutes, with a short discussion between games. Agree which end zone each team will use before starting. After a game ends, bring everyone back into the middle and start again. These arrangements are Hobbit's suggestions; FIFA does not specify a duration, team-to-zone assignment or restart after the win.

## What to ask at the breaks

- "What did the defender do that made the one-two possible?"
- "When was it better to rescue a teammate than to try another one-two?"
- "From the end zone, where could you move to help both passes connect?"

## Where it comes from

FIFA Training Centre published "6v6 possession game: Perfecting wall passes" in its Talent Coach Programme on 8 July 2025. The article and session plan specify the pitch, six-a-side teams, the one-two that sends a defender to an end zone, the passing rescue and the winning condition. They do not name an inventor or give an age range. Hobbit suggests the game for U10 to U16 groups already able to combine under pressure. The timing and adjustments above are also Hobbit's suggestions.
