How to play
- Mark a 15 by 15 metre square for seven players: two dribble a ball, three run without one, and two taggers wear a bib. For ten players, use 20 by 20 with three balls, four runners and three taggers.
- Taggers may only tag players who do not have a ball. A player with a ball is safe.
- Players with a ball watch for the runner who is about to be caught and pass to them. The runner is safe once the ball arrives, and the passer is now a target.
- A tagged player takes the bib and becomes a tagger; the old tagger joins in as a runner. Play rounds of two minutes with a short break between them.
The decision it trains
The player with the ball has to look away from their own ball to see which teammate is about to be caught, then choose and time the pass: too early and the tagger turns to someone else, too late and the tag lands first. Passing also gives up their own safety. The runners decide where to move so a pass can reach them, and the taggers decide whom to chase and when to switch target.

What to ask at the breaks
"How did you know who was about to be caught?"
"When you saved someone, where was the tagger?"
"Runners: what did you do to get the ball before the tagger reached you?"

Who documents it
7 sources · each opens the originalThe one documented source is the Finnish FA, which lists Pelasta pelikaveri -hippa (save-your-teammate tag) among its football games for children and in Lue ja liiku (read and move), its campaign for schools, preschools and daycare. It names no inventor and no date. A hand-passing tag game on an English-language coaching site uses the same rescue by pass, so the idea travels, but the game as a football game is documented only in Finland.
