Drill diagrams

Describe the practice the way you would to another coach and Hobbit draws the whole diagram: both sets of players, cones, goals, runs, passes and ball paths, with the rules listed underneath. The colours are the same in every diagram (blue for one team, red for the other, green for floaters, orange for cones and mini goals), so it needs no legend. From there you edit the diagram rather than starting from an empty pitch.

How to describe it

Cover four things: who is on the pitch, how big the space is, what moves, and what the rules are.

A 25 by 20 metre area, 3v3 plus two floaters, attacking two mini goals; the floaters can pass but not shoot.

Once the diagram is there, keep talking to change it: "shrink the area to 20×15", "add a defender", "attack right to left". Each change redraws the whole diagram.

In the main chat you may get a diagram without asking for one. When your question is about one specific drill or a tactical situation, such as how the midfield covers when a full back overlaps or how to play out against a high press, Hobbit draws it after explaining, so you see on a pitch the positions and movements it just described. It does not draw when the answer is about principles, parents, or a plan for a whole session or season.

What can be in it

The standard coaching notation: both teams, floaters, goalkeepers, cones and grids, full-size and mini goals, passing lines, dribbling paths, running lines, shooting arrows, the size of the area and the names of its zones. Any format from 3v3 to 11v11; a grid, a channel, half a pitch or a full pitch; indoors works too, and the diagram scales to fit.

The drill library

Press "Save Drill" under a diagram and it goes to the Drill library, one card per diagram. Open a card to see the diagram with its rules, or press "View Chat" to go back to its conversation and keep editing. "Download Image" under a diagram saves it as a picture to send to an assistant coach or to the parents.

Edit by hand

When something on the diagram is not right, change it yourself instead of describing it again. Open a diagram in the drill library and press "Edit by hand"; for a diagram just drawn in the chat, press "Adjust, then save" under it, and the adjusted diagram goes into the drill library.

• Tap to select, drag to move. Drag either end of an arrow, or the bottom right corner of a zone to resize it.
• The row at the bottom adds blue, red and green players, a ball, equipment, arrows, zones and text. The equipment is a goal, a mini goal, a cone, a marker disc, a slalom pole, a mannequin, a hurdle, an agility ladder and a ring; goals, mini goals, hurdles and ladders can be turned.
• A selected object can change colour, be duplicated or deleted, and Undo takes back a mistake.

Editing by hand does not count as a drawing.

Allowance

The free plan has 2 drawings in total, for life; a diagram Hobbit draws on its own does not count, only the ones you ask for. Pro is unlimited. Diagrams are SVG drawn by the text engine and do not count against the 50 images a month.
